Event Three: Gangsters, Swindon
Some of the top eightball pool players in England will be aiming for a share of £17,000 in prize money this weekend (26-27 June) when the 2004 English Professional Pool Players Tour (EPPP Tour) arrives at Gangsters Pool Hall in Swindon for the third of its five events in 2004.
Reigning Professional World Champion Rob Hill will be hoping it’s third time lucky after losing out in the final of event one to former World Professional Champion Andy Lucas and in the final of event two to 16-year-old Berkshire potting sensation Daniel Davy. But asking Hill to reach three finals in a row could be a huge ask as the field also includes long-time London professional Pat ‘The Chat’ O’Kane, former professional snooker star Jimmy Carney and former National Youth Champion Joe Flaherty Junior. Also out for prize money and honours will be top London amateurs John ‘The Legend’ Sullivan and Dean ‘The Disher’ Wisher, while the highly rated Paul McHale and hot-potting Immingham cueman Wayne Camm will be aiming for honours. ‘The EPPP Tour features several of the top professionals around and is open to any professional pool player in the UK,’ says Tournament Director Nik Hammond. ‘More importantly for the development of the game, the series of events also offers any amateur who finishes in the top 16 of the end-of-season rankings the chance to get their pro ticket.’ ‘The opening two events has consistently produced a high standard of play and the EPPP Tour is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the premier events on the pool scene,’ says Hammond. The EPPP Tour consists of four events and finishes with a seeded Grand Final in November and, says Hammond, choosing Gangsters as one of the venues was something of an obvious choice. ‘We’ve attended and staged tournaments here in the past and soon learnt what an excellent club it is. We always planned to come here and are delighted the EPPP Tour will be sampling the delights of Gangsters’ hospitality,’ says Nik. For more information, please check out www.englishprotour.co.uk.
