Simon Ward, the blue vase potter from Swansea, has won event number 3 in Jersey with a 7-4 win over Englishman John Giles and moves 17 places up to number 4 in the provisional rankings..

Ward beat London’s Brian Evans in the first round 7-3 followed by a 7-4 win over Peter Dinsdale. A win of the same score over London’s Number One Pat O’Kane took him to the quarters where he beat fellow Welsh International, Johnny Vaughan.

A fine 7-1 semi final win over the European Professional Runner Up, John Chambers took him to the final.

Croasdale remains the Tour number one with Chambers, Hoskins and Ward all close behind.

Kristian Phillips and Steve Martin at five and eight respectively means that three of the top eight are young Welsh Amateurs.
