Kentish Town showdown - latest - 2002-02-16 23:49:04
The much-awaited and much-debated Kentish Town £250-a-man challenge got underway today with some excellent play, some surprise faces, and a few shocks here and there.. Game London youngster John O'Sullivan, the only amateur brave enough to enter the event, in action at Kentish Town this afternoon. John got knocked out early, but he played well and credit to the 2002 England trialist for having the bottle to play with the big boys in the first place!

The organisation and running of the event by Pat O'Kane (chairman of the Professional Pool Players Organisation) was excellent. He managaged to get groups of players from both sides together to play and he chose the excellent double elimination format and set the timings for play (1pm-8pm Saturday and Sunday) perfectly. Also, all players playing were model professionals throughout. The event is a double eliminator which means if you lose you get another chance!
